THE WISDOM OF SOLOMON

Jordan Hill

King Solomon--the 3rd  King of Israel and a major Jewish figure-- is seen as one of the wisest humans to have lived, and not just by Jews:  Christians, Muslims, Rastafarians, Western Ceremonial Magicians, and more look to the life, lore, and teachings of Solomon for guidance.  We'll take a number of different kinds of looks at Solomon, from fairy tales and poetry about him to magical formulas and his philosophies.  As we carry out these explorations we will constantly be looking at the significance of Solomon's teaching's in OUR OWN LIVES, using discussions, meditations, and visualizations to have DIRECT experiences with what these teachings are really about.

MARCH of the LIVING

Rabbi Stephanie Aaron

Learning about the Holocaust (Shoah) is more than acquiring facts and figures, it is uncovering what happened to our people; part of our personal story.  It is impossible to understand all that this means by only studying the years 1939-1945.  The impact of the destruction of European Jewry requires an understanding of what Jewish life was like before the Shoah.  In this class, we will struggle to make sense of the senseless, and we will explore the relationship between remembering and forgiving.  Open to all students – required for students going on the March of the Living

ISRAELI DANCE

Dori Zabari

Get ready for 50 minutes of fun and exercise! HOW DO WE KNOW?

Rabbi Billy

Wrestle with the big questions:    How do we know right from wrong?  What does Torah say about evolution?  What happens when scientific and religious truths contradict?  And, the biggest question of all…how do we know what is true?

KRAV MAGA

Bruce Montoya

Jewish martial arts at Hebrew High! Krav Maga is here!  Krav Maga is the official self defense system of the Israeli Defense Forces, and has been taught to hundreds of law enforcement agencies in the United States.  It started with  the street-fighting skills developed by Imi Lichtenfeld, who used his training as a boxer and wrestler  as a means of defending the Jewish quarter against fascist groups in Czechoslovakia in the 1930s and 40s.  Krav Maga is a simple, effective self defense system that emphasizes instinctive movements, practical techniques, and realistic training scenarios.  Kick some Krav at Hebrew High.
